Valentine’s Day Date Ideas During Lockdown

Closeup of couple making heart shape with handsWith Valentine’s Day approaching, most of us have gotten used to being stuck indoors a lot of the time as mandated lockdowns have become the norm, face to face dating is currently a thing of the past, and whether you’re single or in a relationship, dating has now taken on a completely different form.

Virtual dating has become the new normal, with more people than ever using online dating and phone or text chat lines to find The One.

The first date, however, has become completely different. Rather than meeting for a coffee, going out to dinner, or visiting the cinema, couples are having to become more creative in their dating life, with technology being the focus.

So, with that in mind, how can you begin or continue dating someone without being able to meet up? Below we have listed a few ideas that might give you some inspiration.

Have a romantic candlelit dinner.

Yes, you can still do this! With the wonders of video calls and things like Zoom (which is more private as you don’t have to reveal your number), you can cook simultaneously, or order a takeaway and sit and eat together. Romance doesn’t need to be dead!

Play games together.

Not being able to be in the same room, doesn’t mean things have to be boring. There are plenty of online-based games you can play together. Most games consoles have online capabilities so you can play together, or alternatively there are things like Geoguessr, where you can play against each other and see who can work out where you are in the world first.

Watch a movie or TV show you both love.

Seeing as the cinemas are closed, you can make your own one at home. Schedule a time, choose what to watch and watch it at the same time. You could either video call at the same time so you can talk about it, or message each other whilst watching or at the end to see what you both thought about it. Everyone is watching more TV and movies than ever before, but there must be something left you can watch together!

Write each other letters.

If you’d like technology to take a back seat for a while, you could write to each other. It’s a great way to get your feelings out and you could also send each other little gifts if you’d like.

It’s much more personal than reading a typed message on a screen, whether you’re either getting to know each other, or have known each other ages, it gives a much more personal touch to communication.

Chat on the phone.

Most people get so used to texting or messaging on multiple apps, they don’t seem to connect with each other through the phone anymore.

Schedule a time when you’re both free, to just sit and chat to each other. It’s a great change to give each other your full attention.

If you’ve not met yet, it’s a great way to see if you’ve got chemistry, or if you’ve been together a while, it gives you a chance to really connect with each other if you feel like you might have lost that whilst being apart for so long.

If you’ve yet to meet someone you’d like to date this Valentine’s Day, get yourself on You’ve Pulled and get chatting to singles from all over the UK on our great phone chat or mobile dating services today!

6 Ways To Tell Someone Likes You

Want to know what signs to look for to tell if someone likes you? Here are our top 6 to keep an eye out for.

  1. Mutual eye contact.

If someone is interested in you they are much more likely to try and catch your eye and will maintain eye contact whilst talking to you.

Maintaining eye contact elevates your oxytocin levels and increases mutual attraction!

Just make sure that your eye contact doesn’t end up verging on staring as that’s rude and might scare your date!

  1. Finding excuses to touch you.

When someone likes you’ll they’ll quite often go out of their way to find excuses to touch you.

This might be lightly touching your arm as they talk to you or finding an excuse to hold your hand.

Another way they could touch you is by “preening”. Picking fluff off your clothing or straightening your collar or tie could be an indication that they’re interested in you.

  1. Inward leaning.

The way a person is sitting is an important gauge as to whether they like you. People tend to lean towards people and try to close the gap between you. For example uncrossing their arms/legs or leaning over a table or if you’re sitting next to each other, they’d be likely turned towards you to give you their full attention.

  1. Mirroring.

Subtle mirroring indicates attraction. If they cross their arms when you do, or uncross their legs when you do then it is very likely that there is attraction there.

People who like one another are likely to mirror each other’s body positions. It can help establish rapport and sends a subconscious signal that you’re interested.

  1. No barriers between you.

If they are interested in you they are likely to remove any barriers or obstacles between you. If they’re sitting opposite you they might move to sit next to you or if there is something big on the table they might move it out of the way so they can see you better.

They might move cups and things out of the way so that there is a clear path between you, or also as mentioned previously, they may uncross their arms or legs as this can be seen as a barrier, so removal of this leaves them more open towards you.

  1. They ask you lots of questions.

If someone is asking you a lot of questions about yourself and seems genuinely interested – then they probably are!

If you like someone you want to make time to find out more information about them so if someone is making an effort to learn about you then they are likely to have a vested interest in you.

We all love a semi; some facts about Croatia!

With the England v Croatia semi-final game looming, we thought you might find some facts about Croatia useful!

Impress your partner by saying “I love you” in Croatian – “Volim te”. (Probably not the best idea if you’re on a first date though!).

Put a spark into the conversation by telling them Nikola Tesla was born in Croatia.

Dubrovnik was known as the “Adriatic Pearl” in the early 19th century and was a filming location for “Game of Thrones” King’s Landing and Star Wars – certainly somewhere to visit if you holiday together!

Croatians had their own alphabet from the 12th to the 20th century. The Glagolitic alphabet was preserved only by Croats. Why not write a secret note for them to decode? The pen was also invented in Croatia, originally a mechanical pencil called the “Penkala”.

If you’re thinking of buying your date some flowers, know that the national flower of Croatia is the Iris.

If your date is a fan of musicals, they’ll be impressed to know that the island of Vis is used to portray Greece in the film ‘Mamma Mia 2’.

For a romantic getaway why not take your partner to Dalmatia? Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night was set there.

If you’re one for dressing smartly for your date, you can enlighten your date on the fact that the necktie was invented in Croatia.

Not got a date yet? Then why not get on You’ve Pulled and meet someone today!

Top 5 tips when on a first date this Valentine’s day

YOU’VE PULLED!  – First date has finally arrived and the pressure is on!

Bad Date

Here are our top DO’S and DON’T’s to get you to that second date.

DO        Make sure you shower, wash your hair and MAKE sure you brush your                            teeth, nothing worse than turning up for your first date and stinking like you                      have not washed in the last 3 weeks!!

DON’T  Over do it! Over powering someone with too much aftershave / perfume is                      enough to make them sick and head for the door.

DO       Compliment them on their appearance – Just a little remark on how nice they                   look could be a good little ice breaker.

DON’T    Ask if their wearing underwear, that’s one question that’s a little too far and to                  be honest will destroy your chances of finding out!

DO         Say if you want to see your date again

DON’T   SAY ‘I love you, do you love me’ on the first date. That’s one way you’ll see                      them running for the door faster than Usain Bolt!

DO         Ask questions and listen

DON’T    Sit there and talk about yourself all night, ignoring your date is down right                        boring and RUDE!

DO          Make sure you go to the right place, which could be a Café, Restaurant or pub

DON’T    Take her to a football match or round your mate’s house!

DON’T    Get Drunk

DON’T    Mention your EX

DON’T    Bring along a friend, that’s just weird!

DON’T    Talk about marriage, babies, That’s even more weird!

And finally

Just have fun!!!

What Not to Say on a First Date

Last month we gave you some helpful ‘first date conversation tips’ so you’d never be stuck for something to say on a first date. However, what happens when nerves get the better of you and you let your tongue runs away with itself, perhaps having too much to say? You end up revealing too much and scaring your date off before you’ve even reached the main course that’s what! So to help make sure you keep the conversation on track here’s what not to say on a first date.

Bad mouthing your ex – This really is a no brainer but on a first date you really shouldn’t be talking about your ex. Not only is it a huge turn off but it could also suggest that you’re not quite over your previous relationship!

Financial problems- This is way too much information for a first date not to mention a major turn off. Discussing your credit card problems or your low salary is not appropriate first date chit chat. And whatever you do don’t order the most expensive thing on the menu and expect your date to pay!

You want kids and marriage ASAP – Start talking about marriage and kids on a first date and you’re only going to send off one signal – desperate! Harsh but true. Marriage and kids is something that most people see in their future but don’t get ahead of yourself and save that conversation for when things are a little more serious.

“I love you” – This one speaks for itself! Sure someone people fall in love quickly, but on a first date? If you don’t want to scare your date off completely save these three little words for a lot further down the line.

Insecurities –Sure, we all have insecurities, we’re only human after all. However, talking about them will only make you feel worse about yourself not to mention bring the mood of the date down. As bad as it sounds your date isn’t there to be your agony aunt. They’re there to find out what’s great about you!

“Can I take your picture?” – Unless you want to send your date running in the opposite direction do not say this! You might want to show your date off to your friends but this will just come across a little, well, stalker’ish. Plus, you can always see their photo on You’ve Pulled.

What to eat on a first date!

Lucky you, you’ve got a first date with someone you’ve been talking to from the site and you’ve planned to go for dinner. Chances are, as it’s a first date, you’ll be scrutinising everything – even down to where you go and what your date orders.

So based on our own experiences, we thought we’d have a little fun and put together a list of first date food choices and what they could say about your partner. Fun rather than factual, however, we think there could be some truth in this.
1. Ribs or Spaghetti: They don’t have any hang ups, are willing to take risks and are not afraid of looking silly. Someone who orders ribs or spaghetti on a first date is likely to be a confident person.
2. A margherita pizza: Plain and simple, just like your date perhaps? Ordering the most boring thing on the menu shows that your date could be quite a fussy character and not one for straying from their normal routine.
3. Tapas: A social person who enjoys adventure and likes to try new things.
4. Chicken nuggets and chips: If your date opts for ‘fast food’ or ‘freezer food’ on a first date, it could be an indication that they are quite childish by nature and lazy too. Likewise, if you order this on a first date, you’re unlikely to get a second.
5. French food: They are sophisticated, tasteful and enjoy the finer things in life.
6. Salad: Not only does it scream vain and make your date look high maintenance, it could also be a sign that they’re tight with their money.
7. Pub grub: Laid back, sociable, and fun. A bit of pub grub shows that your date doesn’t take things too seriously.
8. Garlic bread: They don’t kiss on a first date
9. Oysters/Asparagus: They go past first base on a first date.
10. Lobster: They’re paying!

Phew! Now that’s dinner de-coded all that’s left to do is to make sure you don’t any leafy greens stuck in your teeth or pasta sauce smeared around your mouth! We hope that’s given you food for thought for your next dinner date, but remember, it’s just a bit of fun so don’t take it too seriously!
